Quinoa – Ingredients in Depth

18 Jul

I have heard this little word so many times from my Nutritionist. Dr. Lysa always says…”get Quinoa”. After researching it, I know why! This little thing contains a great deal of nutrition and is a gluten free grain-like crop that is easy on the digestive system!

Quinoa has become highly appreciated for its nutrition, as it contains more protein than any other grain. Rice contains an average of 7.5% and wheat contains an average of 14% while quinoa is at an average of 16.2% (some varieties are above 20%). Unlike rice and wheat which are low in lysine, quinoa contains a balanced set of essential amino acids and is a good source of dietary fiber. It high in lysine, methionine and cystine and contains phosphorus, magnesium and iron. The list goes on and on. There are many uses for this and I am glad they added it to Shakeology!
